ARROW - Building Object Warehouse Demo
ARROW
- Building Object Warehouse Demo
BRE in partnership with Visual Technology have secured 50% funding
under the Department of the Environment, Transport and Regions
(DETR) Partners in Technology Scheme to develop a prototype
Building Objects Warehouse (BOW). The other 50% will be
contributed by industry as in-kind contribution.
This ARROW (Advanced Reusable Robust Object Warehouse) project,
will develop a framework to allow product information to be located
and directly imported into CAD, design and analysis tools. The project
will also produce a toolkit for manufacturers to publish their
information in a general object oriented form which is understandable
by a wide range of design and analysis systems.
The BOW system will allow designers, specifiers and facility managers
to select building components that are right for their task and to
check against manufactured components in order that contractors can
buy components which actually fit and perform to specifications. In
developing the BOW system the concept of intelligent objects is
employed as a novel means for storing, using and re-using data and
information about products and or components used within the
building and construction industry. Intelligent Objects (IOs), know
what they are, what their pedigree is, who produced them, what their
primary usage/purpose is, what their attributes/properties are, what
they look like, and how they should present themselves in different
environments.
