UK-DETR Materials Information Exchange
The waste exchange centre provides a trading post for second hand and un-utilised construction materials over the Internet. Centres are likely to be established in national contexts, though they can also be tailored for an individual organisation’s internal trading with links through to the national systems. Centres can be tailored for various regions in a country and for differing types of waste through the adaption of location and waste-type tables in a centre.
Waste exchange centres allow the identification of sources of materials based on their type, the location available, and the period available. Contact details enable sellers and potential buyers to come together. Construction firms looking for a particular type of material can also advertise their requirements through the exchanges.
One of the fundamental assumptions of this service, and the CONNET initiative, is that there is benefit from bringing together as wide a range of organisations as possible. To this end we welcome the establishment of new Waste Exchange Centres in other countries or for individual organisations. We also welcome connections with existing waste resellers who may sell their materials to particular audiences in the countries they serve.
